ROCKFORT
ROCKFORT is the Land mark of TRICHY. At the north Bank of River Cauvery, a massive outcrops of rock formation, 83mts, (273') high rears abrubtly out of Cauvery plains - as if it is guard the city. Atop the rock is the famous UCHI PILLAYAR TEMPLE.
Climbing 437 steps, anybody can reach the temple. The most amazing fact about the rock is: It is one of the oldest rock formations in the world (3800 million years).
On the south side of the rock there are several beautifully carved rock cut temples of PALLAVAS:
